The Location of Moor Monkton
Moor Monkton is situated in the heart of the Vale of York, about 6 miles (9.5km) north west of York. It is bounded to the north and west by the rivers Ouse and Nidd respectively at their confluence. The A59 York to Harrogate road passes through its southern area parallel to the York to Leeds Railway line. The rivers provide the village with a natural boundary that is only crossed by one bridge, at SkipBridge, where the A59 crosses the Nidd. This results in the isolated situation of the village, with all roads turning north of the main road terminating within the parish.
